Itineraries

To the Colosseo passing by the Hill Celio (2,5 km): starting from the apartment, across the street and go left to take immediately the first right (Via Ardea), cross the traffic lights, go straight to the colorful flea market of Via Sannio, famous for its stands of vintage wear (clothes and shoes) and military; follow Via Sannio to the left, then continue on Via Farsalo and Via Ipponio until you get to Porta Metronia, go through the arch and continue on Via della Navicella reaching the beautiful Villa Celimontana. Next to the main entrance of the park you can admire the church of Santa Maria in Domnica, called “della Navicella” (http://www.santamariaindomnica.it/). Taking the picturesque pedestrian alley on the right side of the church you arrive at the church of Santi Giovanni e Paolo (called “dei Lampadari”) with access to the case romane (http://www.caseromane.it/). Further behind you get to the churches of Santo Stefano Rotondo (http://www.santo-stefano-rotondo.it/) and San Gregorio al Celio, with its imposing staircase. From there going to the right you reach the Colosseo in only a few steps (http://www.coopculture.it).

To the Colosseo passing by San Giovanni in Laterano (1,8 km): starting from the apartment, across the street and go left to take immediately the first right (Via Ardea), cross the traffic lights, go straight to the flea market of Via Sannio; follow Via Sannio to the right, go through the arch of San Giovanni and reach the imposing Basilica of San Giovanni in Laterano. Behind the Basilica take the narrow street Via dei Santi Quattro, where you will find the medieval church of Santi Quattro Coronati (http://www.santiquattrocoronati.org/). Continuing straight you reach the Colosseo (http://www.coopculture.it).

To the Circo Massimo (2 km) passing by the Terme di Caracalla: starting from the apartment, across the street and go left to take immediately the first right (Via Ardea), cross the traffic lights, go straight to the flea market of Via Sannio, follow Via Sannio to the left, then continue on Via Farsalo and Via Ipponio until you get to Porta Metronia, go through the arch and continue on Via Druso to the left; after approx. 200 m the street widens, at that point turn right and continue on Viale delle Terme di Caracalla, where you can find the entrance to the Terme di Caracalla on the left side (http://www.coopculture.it) and further behind the Circo Massimo.

To the Hill Aventino (3 km) passing by the Circo Massimo and the Bocca della Verità: starting from the apartment, across the street and go left to take immediately the first right (Via Ardea), cross the traffic lights, go straight to the flea market of Via Sannio, follow Via Sannio to the left, then continue on Via Farsalo and Via Ipponio until you get to Porta Metronia, go through the arch and continue on Via Druso to the left; after approx. 200 m the street widens, at that point turn right and continue on Viale delle Terme di Caracalla until the end, where you reach Circo Massimo. Walk on the west side of the Circo Massimo and at its end take Via dei Cerchi, which takes you to Piazza della Bocca della Verità. After having experienced the thrill of putting the hand into the famous mouth, go back to Circo Massimo and take on the right hand Via Clivio dei Publici which leads to the Hill Aventino. On the way you will find the Parco Savello (known as Giardino degli Aranci), from where you can enjoy a magnificent view of Rome. From there you get to the churches of Santa Sabina, Sant’Alessia and Santa Maria del Priorato on Piazza dei Cavalieri di Malta, well-known also for its famous keyhole. In fact, if you look through the keyhole of the gate of the Priory of the Order of Malta, you can admire a suggestive image of the cupola of the Basilica of San Pietro framed by hedges of the gardens of the Priory.
